Traditional Thai Massage in Ventura, CA
Traditional Thai massage is the practice we are named for: assisted stretching, rhythmic compression, and acupressure, performed by hand on a padded mat at our studio on East Main Street in downtown Ventura.
What is Traditional Thai Massage?
Traditional Thai massage — nuad Thai — is a centuries-old bodywork practice from Thailand, added to UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019. Instead of kneading the muscles with oil, the therapist uses palms, thumbs, forearms, and guided stretches to work along the body's sen energy lines, opening the joints and lengthening the muscles.
You stay fully clothed, there is no oil, and the work happens on a padded mat rather than a raised table. Many guests describe it as having yoga done for them: you relax, and the therapist moves you.
What to expect
- 01
A short conversation about where you hold tension, any past injuries, and the pressure you prefer.
- 02
You change into loose, comfortable clothing — we provide it — and lie down on the mat.
- 03
The work typically begins at the feet and legs and moves upward: rhythmic compression through the legs, hips, and back, then the shoulders, arms, neck, and head.
- 04
Stretches are added gradually and only within your comfortable range. Say the word and the pressure changes on the spot.
- 05
The session closes slowly. Most guests leave feeling loose and alert rather than sleepy.
Who Traditional Thai Massage is best for
- Stiff hips, hamstrings, and lower back from sitting or driving
- Limited range of motion in the shoulders and neck
- Runners, surfers, cyclists, and anyone who trains regularly
- Guests who prefer to stay clothed and skip the oil
Choose Traditional Thai when stiffness and mobility are the main concern. If you want the same stretching with warm oil work added, book the Thai Combo; if one stubborn area needs focused pressure, deep tissue is the better fit.

Traditional Thai Massage FAQ
Does Thai massage hurt?
It shouldn't. Pressure and stretches are firm but stay within your comfortable range, and you can ask for lighter or deeper work at any point. Some guests feel mild soreness the next day, much like after a good stretch class.
What do I wear for a Thai massage?
Loose, comfortable clothing you can move in. We provide everything you need, so you can come straight from work.
Do I need to be flexible for Thai massage?
No. The therapist does the moving and works within the range your body has that day. Guests who feel stiff often notice the biggest difference.
How long should my first Thai massage be?
Sixty minutes covers the full body. Choose 90 minutes for unhurried full-body work plus extra time on problem areas, or 30 minutes for one focused area such as the back and shoulders.
Is Thai massage safe if I am pregnant or injured?
Tell us before you book. If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery or an injury, or managing a medical condition, check with your doctor first — we will then suggest the style and pressure that suit you.
